Guild Suggestions (Warning Long) Empty Guild Suggestions (Warning Long)

Post  Kelaziel Sat Dec 08, 2012 4:51 pm

I want to start this off by saying I realize that I am new to the guild, and that I am not trying to offend anyone. These are just a list of suggestions from a guy who is enjoying his time within this guild and am looking to make it better, not only for me, but for others as well.

A little of my history so you can know I make these suggestions not just off the cuff but because I have seen them help other guilds and people be successful. I have played MMORPG's for a very long time, 15+ Years really. In that time I have established and led 3 guilds in various games. Let me be clear, I have no desire to lead any longer as the mantle of responsibility was one I found I did not enjoy overly much.

All that said, I am going to break down my suggestions into various categories just so they are easier to track, I will go into detail with some of them, but others I feel are self explanatory. If you have any questions about what I mean then please feel free to ask.

1) Events-- I really do enjoy the fact that our guild does events on such a regular basis. It makes for a fun and engaging time with guild-mates. And these are my suggestions to make them better.
A) Let the event start at the assigned time. This has been a problem with several of the events I have shown up to. It will say it starts at 10, but at 10 those of us who showed up to participate are left standing there for another 20 minutes doing nothing while folks are still being rounded up, convinced into going, or just formulating a plan. All this should be done BEFORE the start of the event. If I show up 10 minutes before the start its frustrating having to sit there for 30 minutes while nothing happens.
B) Doing one thing shouldn't exclude you from another. I see that in order to rank up in the guild it is to ranks that specialize in either PvE or WvW. What of the people who like to do both. Myself as an example, I do enjoy PvP in all its forms, but I still like to run dungeons.
C) Why only WvW and Dungeon events? Why not the instanced PvP in the heart of the mists? I realize it doesn't come with the perks of WvW but to some folks it might be fun.
D) If people aren't wanting to come why try and force them? I hear on Raidcall and what not people upset that people aren't coming to events. Well maybe they are doing something else at the moment, or need to go soon. Besides why would you want someone at an event who doesn't wish to be there?
E) If your going to insist that people MUST be on Raidcall for an event, let that be known in advance. Perhaps someone who thought they would attend something but its late in their time zone so they have someone else who is asleep doesn't want to get on voice to avoid waking them up, and thus they could opt out of going before hand.

2) Recruitment--Getting the letter that accompanied the guild invite was what in the end made me decide to want to join. Anyone who is willing to spell things out in advance and not just spam me with invitations lets me know they care about who they recruit. That said the letter I got now that I have been in the guild for awhile I can see plainly was not as advertised. Not to say I don't love running with you folks, but ya its very different than described in the recruitment letter. That said here are my suggestions...
A) Lets be honest. The letter I received stated that the guild had hundreds of active players and that you were dedicated to both PvP and PvE. This is false. In fact I would say we actually have less than 50 active members, the rest are never online. This is not a bad thing, it's not. We are a growing guild and everyone has to start somewhere. If someone is looking to join a guild with several hundred active members and join us because of that, how long do you think they will stay once they find out we cant get a full WvW event going, or even groups for instances?
B) If your going to tell people a hundred times a day that they have to sign up for the forums, get on Raidcall, and Install Palringo, Put that in the letter that you require these things. Several people I know detest forums and Voice Chat programs. If you put in the letter that they are required, your going to save yourself alot of hassle and time.

3) The Forums-- Personally I think the forums are a great way to talk about things with your fellow guild members when your not online, organize events, and discuss strategy. But right now things are a mess. My suggestions are...
A) Organization. Why don't we have a few new categories for PvE and PvP event setups this would leave the WvW strategies area left open for people who actually want to post or discuss strategies. Why does the guild announcement area not hold all the guild announcements?
For instance the lottery game is listed under General Chat...I see you have a ton of moderators, what are they doing to keep things organized? (Not attacking anyone just really curious)
B) Event Planning. This should not be the ONLY place people can find out about events. I play for 10+ hours a day sometimes, I don't want to have to constantly tab out checking forums, to see if I am going to miss anything. A simple 1 line message in the Guild message of the Day would allow me to see if there are events happening that day and if I want more info on them, then I can go check the forums for more information. For example if the guild message of the day said something like "WvW 9pm, 5am, 11am Instances 5pm, 2am, 8am see forums for details" would go along way. If I want to attend the WvW event at 9pm I can check the forums to see where it will start, and who is leading it. If I want to do a dungeon at 2am, I can see if one I want to run is being run at that time and who is leading it. Very simple.
C)There are others I have but I worry people will think I am being disrespectful so I will omit them for now, but I may discuss them at a later date.

4) Raidcall-- I like Raidcall..up to a point that is. I get on for general stuff and WvW events. Why only then? It can really frustrate me at times. Plus it makes it some I have to turn my music down Razz Here are some suggestions..
A) Yelling on raidcall to get everyone on raidcall is pointless, your basically yelling at me to get on, when I am already on. You want other people on there, that great but don't holler at me about it I'm already on it! LOL
B) If you want Raidcall mandatory for an event put that in the event plans so people know. Then if they don't get on remove them from the group. Much less hassle.

5) New People-- People new to the game (myself included) can feel a bit overwhelmed with all the things to be found in gw2, here are some suggestions to help maybe make things a bit easier..
A)When your looking for folks to do an instance with instead of typing lf1m AC it would eliminate alot of trouble and confusion if you could type just a few extra letters into it. Some thing like "lf1m AC Level 35+" Right away I know if I can go or not because you put the level requirement in there. I know myself I am still learning so I may forget from time to time what level an instance is as I am leveling. This lets me know and only takes a few extra keystrokes for everyone.
B) Give people a chance before you jump on them about their spec or choice of weapon. I get yelled at constantly as an elementalist for not using a staff. Why don't I use a staff? Because I am TERRIBLE with it. I do everything better as a D/D Elementalist because that what I play and that's what I like. More importantly that's what I am good at. Yelling at me to go staff and spam my heals is not going to be helpful. And more importantly I am not going to enjoy myself. If you want a staff using elementalist, don't invite me. The same should go for everyone. People should be allowed to play what they want, if you disagree, just pass on inviting them.
C) If someone new asks a question in guild chat please give them a reply, even if it's "I don't know" it makes it so new people don't think they are being ignored and are just a slot on the roster.

WvW-- This is the last part cause I wanna get back to playing but for me since its an area I am passionate about please forgive me if I come off wrong, mean, or insulting I really dont mean to be its just that PvP is what makes games fun for me. Anyhow disclaimer aside here are some suggestions..
A) Train people, and if they don't listen don't keep inviting them. I have watched our guild members time and time again do things like take resources from a keep we are trying to hold and upgrade rather than take the time to go to a supply camp. This hurts us and helps the enemy and is frustrating to watch time and time again.
B) Lets get organized and communicate better. There is alot of do this do that talk happening over chat which should be unnecessary for people. A simple "Group 1 build then resupply" should have people doing just that. Using their supply's then running for more. It shouldn't have to be a 10 minute ordeal to make things happen, that's just inefficient.
C) Stop repeating yourself, if I have questions Ill ask. Saying "Kelaziel attack this keep from the west" is enough. I don't need to be told to do it 100x in a row. I have been playing WvW since the first day I got this game, and I know it at least fairly well by now. There is no need to micro mange people, give them a job and trust they will do it, if they don't then we either need to work more on training or communication.
D) Raidcall while making things fun for everyone and allowing us to talk to each other needs to calm down a bit while we are doing WvW. I know personally several times I wanted to call out incoming but someone was talking non stop on raidcall so I wasn't able to get a word in.

Ok going to stop here because this turned out much larger than I planned and again, I apologize if this offends anyone or if I have overstepped my bounds or anything. This was typed up really quickly so forgive my spelling and grammar mistakes. These are just my suggestions, take em or leave em if nothing else perhaps they can inspire yall to think of other ways of improving the guild.

Guild Suggestions (Warning Long) Empty Re: Guild Suggestions (Warning Long)

Post  keigo Sun Dec 09, 2012 4:52 am

Hi,

Thanks for your input on trying to make the guild a better place and I'll see what can be done to make the guild better.

As far as for the ranks is concern, there's a restriction to the amount of ranks you could create and after several rounds of discussions, we've chosen the WvW/Dungeons/HR.

The reason for these 3 is simple, we should know which is our priority and what is the mission/vision and core values of the guild. However, we're in no way disregarding the importance of the guild PVP and from time to time, we would have PVP sessions organize for the guild. Due to the badly designed PVP, the guild decided not to take it as a priority as:
1. We cannot create a room to train by ourselves.
2. We cannot have a standard party group in the PVP to match against team 2 (our guild members / other guild members)
3. We cannot have a 1v1 session as well.
4. There's no way to lock a room.
From the above reasons, we're not able to enjoy the true fun of a PVP and a proper training received.

Once again, we would like to highlight that the guild does everything, but do remember that the guild have things that we prioritize in.

The reason for the ranks are not to "discourage" you from doing other things, you can be a WvW leader but you can do dungeon, farming, pvp and etc. The purpose of having the ranks differential is to:
1. The Vice commanders & the Team leaders act as a mentor in the guild to groom our members.
2. They have better knowledge in this field
3. Educating guild members of various roles
4. Encourage members to discover what they love to do and to groom members to be the leaders

Time management: Do remember that our guild is a big guild, to get things going and organize one huge event, you can see that it's not an easy to do so. Recently, I've come up with the idea of agenda, the purpose of having agenda before wvw is simple, to allow guild members to know what we are doing and is an open group discussion. Furthermore, you need to understand that it's the leaders that are trying very hard to make people gather, yes we can do that earlier, but it would end up the same. You would be probably waiting there for the next 30min because we are still trying to gather people and teaching them how to join a squad and raidcall. It's not an easy task, unless we have everyone that understands what to do. As a guild, do treat this as a huge family, we have to be tolerant with each other. The family is strong and united because of the family, it's not just about how good the leader is. It's a team effort and the keyword i want you to learn is to be "tolerant" with the guild members.

The forum is just being setup and thing is we need time to get thing in place, i appreciate your input and we will works towards it, do bear in mind, I'm the only one that setup the forum, the raidcall, the palringo. And do note there's alot of admin works that I need to do as well. I'm not complaining but I want you to understand that being a leader is not an easy task. I've a job outside and i'm using time to do all these for the guild. From time to time, I could only have 3hours in the game but spending an hour on the forum to reply mails, sending mails, guild leaders discussions, it's really not an easy task for me, so the keyword here again is "tolerant" & "patience". You can enjoy your game while i will try my best to do what i can with the limited time I've.

Guild Size : it's not a misleading thing as the fact is you've not been in other guilds before (probably). Do remember our guild has people from all timezone, if you're seeing 50 throughout, it's a 50 different members everytime, people login at a different timing. Try popping to other guilds, you probably be seeing 10~15 members online for a certain timing and that's it. I'm proud to say that the guild has very active amount of people online on all various timezone, good thing is you know you can do anything at anytime when you're online. Furthermore, we are the only few guilds that are so active, that chats in the guild, that have so many events and we simply love the fun of each other. Try going to other guild, you probably don't even see all these at all.
In terms of guild size, we are the largest in HoD (if you've attended the HoD meeting recently)
In terms of guild chats, most guild don't chat in guild chat, you can see how many guild members complain about that when they came from their guild to our guild, I've personally experienced that several times.
In term of events, you can see that the guild does all the fun things together, we had temple runs, PVP events done together tho not frequent, dungeons event on daily basis (check out the peeps from other guild, they had a hard time searching for a dungeon and they had to ask pugs to join them, try a pug run and you will see how it feel)
The leaders had been actively coming up with various events and this time round we had a weekly lottery event and we are expecting a Pre-Xmas celebration cum team building event and all these are still under discussions with my leaders and the HR Managers.

In terms of WvW events, we are the only guild in HoD that have create impact in WvW so far. We could almost get our objectives done on every events. People would be so happy to see our guild in action, it's always a cheer when SD march into the land of HoD borderland. People see and feel the impact what SD could do, this is the kind of image I want our guild to deliver to the people of HoD, i want them to know not all hopes are gone and our guild is here for them and we shall be the strongest and most united, fun-loving & peace-loving family guild.
If you've see the amount of SD during the events, you would almost feel the joy, the fun and how strong we are as a guild. The impact is not done by me, is the family and we are that family.

We have all sorts of communications for our guild, be it voice chat "raidcall" to forum to even guild messenger "palringo". All these communications setup takes time and we had done everything we could for the guild and to make members feel engaged, be it you're new or not. (i doubt any guild has that many kind of communications as compared to us)

From the list above, i would like you to understand that the guild has everything and anything for the guild members, I'm sure it's not perfect and nobody can be perfect. And that's where there's always room for improvement, but today I'm proud to say that our guild, our family is a warm and cozy one, funny and united one and strong and passionate one. Our progression within these short time span of 2months is truly remarkable.

By the way, I'm sorry to confuse you, I was actually shouting Kenzer (he's our dungeon leader, an elementalist as well). Truly sorry for that. I'm not trying to micro manage but to remind him to keep the front liners alive.

Thanks for your message and I hope you understand where I am coming from.

Cheers.

Greetings young one,

I do not appreciate your concerns for the guild. You might have your own point of thoughts to voice out. But you are in our guild right now. And like you said, you are still new to the game. With that said, i will be straight and blunt to you. As i am less technical in my words compared to Keigo, he already explained your case. I am here for your attitude directly.

Respect the guild. You want to voice out your thoughts then learn how to voice out because it seems to me that you want this guild to be run they way you want it. If thats the case then, please, go ahead and create your own guild. The things that you said "should" or "shouldnt" be done directly offends the management of the guild. Your way of delivering your opinion are way of giving orders.

So to put it more bluntly. What im trying to say is, you pissed me off.

Hawk aka Kyo
HR Manager. (the blunt one)

Hello Kelaziel,

First of all thanks for your input, we could really use your input because at this time the guild have expanded very quickly and I actually feel its a mess too.

Please don't mind about Hawk, he's always the blunt one. Keigo had answered some of the reason for your suggestion. But you have mentioned some good points that I too, wish our leaders would do something to improve it:

1) Let the event start on time. I really hate waiting for everyone to come and get ready, its wasting time for those who are punctual. I suggest we have someone say in guildchat before the event started so people would get ready for it (get on raidcall, join squad etc.)
2) Raidcall. We have a lot of new members lately so it takes time to wait them set it up during event. Perhaps we should tell them when they joined the guild that we have events that need raidcall to coordinate.
3) Role of the forum. Since the forum is not part of the game, people might not want to come here. I think we could use the forum as a place to right down the rules and regulation of guild, detailed info of event, simple guides/tips of dungeon or wvw (could copy from other sites), events like lottery etc. These things in forum is just a extra for those that wish to know more, so that people that don't visit forum would not missed out too important thing of the guild.
4) Recruitment. Right now we are expanding to 500 guild member limit so we invite everyone we could. Sooner or later we will hit the max and we will want the guildies to be quality members that not only good at the game but also willing to communicate and participate guild events. If raidcall, forum or palringo is mandatory for our guild then we should make this a requirement for joining us now.
5) Another ting is that we have too many wvw this weekend, some players that could only play on weekend may wish to do other things like dungeons, leveling, farming. We should balance the number of big events or give a time limit on wvw because basicly wvw last a whole week and never ends.

This game is fairly new and same to our guild, before we reach the mature level of a big, active, powerful, leading guild of HoD, we could use all the suggestion to improve ourselves. So everyone please don't feel offended or excluded, it takes some time for us to improve and that requires the effort of everyone.

Cheers,
zimme

Your intention might not. But the way you input them yes. Let me put you in my point of view when i see your post. "i have played mmo for over decades blablabla led how many guild before. And i dont mean to disrespect or making you guys mad but the wvw, pvp, rank promotion, dungeon should be this this and this. And shouldnt be like this this and this." i dont know. Thats pretty disrespectful. Not my way of giving suggestion. The last thing i need is a keyboard warrior who is trying to make keyboard war. So before you even start to elaborate on me as your topic, go join other guild or make your own.

So because I said I played games before I am disrespectful? Because I SUGGEST things can be done another way I am "trying to make this guild be run the way I want it?" Seriously? Thats the problem that I said I played games before? You might wanna think about taking off the tin foil hat, not everyone's out to get you dude. And again I never said it HAD to be like this or that, I was making suggestions. There was nothing in there that said "DO IT THIS WAY OR YOUR TOTALLY WRONG AND THE WORLD WILL END AND I WILL TAKE OVER YOUR GUILD AND EAT YOUR BABIES!" Get a grip. suggestions are just that, suggestions. You take em or you don't personally it didnt matter to me one way or another. God help anyone else who tries to suggest things, you might think they are planning to put death lazers on the moon or something.
